Title: Why Me? Pdf
In the blink of an eye, Mom ran up behind me and pushed me into the fence. Instinctively, I reached out my arms to stop my fall and ended up grabbing the live fence. My hands clamped around the thin wires, and my body collapsed to the ground as the electricity coursed through it. I opened my eyes and saw my mother standing over me with the strangest smile on her face. “Oh, my God, I’m going to die!” I thought in panic.
Imagine never being able to close your eyes and remember the feel of your mother’s arms wrapped around you. Now imagine closing your eyes and remembering your mother’s tears splashing down on your face as she is on top of you, crying as she is trying to choke you to death. My mother left me these memories and many more during my traumatic childhood. After many years of struggling with trying to understand “Why Me?” I took back control of my life and started saying, “It was me, now what am I going to do?” The answer is my book, “Why Me?”. It is my childhood journey through the terrors of physical and mental abuse from first grade until the day I moved out. It is my way of letting the world know what was really going on behind closed doors.

What courage! You made it! This book....so many thoughts and feelings. After years and years of therapy, Al Anon, self help, conferences, seminars, this was the FIRST time somebody's story resonated with mine. Sarah not only has the superior coping skills to write about her experience but also built a great and loving life with two of her own children.(I have the great honor of following her on social media to see her newest pieces (Psychology Today, etc), The abuse, the sick, crazy, "no one can believe" life she had.....was mine as well. I love you for taking this risk and writing this book. May all your dreams come true, Sarah.Read in one day I read this entire book in one day. It is mind boggling to me set a mother can be so cruel to her child. That any woman gives birth to a child can treat her in such a manner. This book is eye-opening to me. My family is nothing like this. My mother was loving kind sweet generous. My parents were married for 66 years. My father is still alive at 92. I grew up in a loving family, with Family values, morals, and ethics. When I read such a story, it makes me so sad that this actually happens, And no one saw the signs. Blows me away that no one saw the signs to step up and help this child. If you want to read a book with a good dose of reality, this is a book to read. The kind of book that sits with you I didn't stop reading until I made it to the end. I hate to say I enjoyed reading it because it was truly heartbreaking, but I'm glad the author shared her story with us. I purchased this as a big F you to her Mom, and I would have happily paid $10 to own this.My favorite part she included was her own epilogue letting the readers know how she's doing and where her head is at. I was thrilled to see a happy ending for her.

The Inner Work of Racial Justice Free Pdf

ISBN: 059308392X
Title: The Inner Work of Racial Justice Pdf Healing Ourselves and Transforming Our Communities Through Mindfulness
Author: Rhonda V. Magee
Published Date: 2019
Page: 368

"This book opens doors for all of us to better understand the conditioning that keeps us feeling so separate and apart. Rhonda Magee is a significant new voice I've wanted to hear for a long time—a voice both unabashedly powerful and deeply loving in looking at race and racism. Most important, Rhonda's voice is a practical one, illuminating a path each of us can follow to a life filled with far greater awareness, connection, and peace." —Sharon Salzberg, New York Times-bestselling author of Real Happiness“How can we begin to explore, understand, and finally, undo the painful injustice of racism that is so deeply embedded in us? Illuminated by her work in meditation and mindfulness practice, Rhonda Magee has spent her life considering this question. Her knowledge, wisdom, sensitivity, and compassion shine through every page of The Inner Work of Racial Justice. This book should be read slowly and carefully by everyone. Do its exercises, ponder its nuances. Take it to heart—you can’t afford not to.” —Norman Fischer, founder and spiritual director of the Everyday Zen Foundation“With warmth, knowledge, and personal storytelling, Rhonda Magee offers us a path to look into the painful truths of structural racial oppression with mindfulness and compassion, which provides the necessary emotional grounding to skillfully work through the pain to generate new solutions through authentic connections to more communities. It may take generations to undo the harms of systemic racial oppression, but with this revolutionary book, Rhonda brings us many generations closer.” —Helen Weng, PhD, Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at the University of California at San Francisco“A powerful, courageous, and compelling exploration of the role of mindfulness in working toward racial justice, and of working toward racial justice as an element of mindfulness. This book is essential reading for our time.”—Joan Halifax, PhD, founder of the Upaya Zen Center “A powerful and important book on how to apply mindfulness to address racial, social, and economic divisions in a way that nurtures individual and group healing and integration. Rhonda Magee models the compassion, courage, and wisdom needed to understand, examine, and deconstruct very painful manifestations of racism in our society.”—Due Quach, author of Calm Clarity "How brilliant! How useful! How essential right now! Rhonda Magee frames racism as one of the habits of mind that lead straight to suffering, then applies the wisdom of mindfulness to untangle the knots, compulsions, and delusions that hold this habit in place. She shares finely-tuned practices and stories that speak to the heart and mind. Her compassion is astounding and a teaching for each and every one of us." —Amy Gross, contributing editor at Tricycle: The Buddhist Review“Making explicit connections between personal and social change, Rhonda Magee offers us a transformative roadmap forward for racial justice work. Infused with both love and rigor, this book is essential reading, full of hard-won insights from a teacher who walks her talk.”—David Treleaven, PhD, author of Trauma-Sensitive Mindfulness“According to Rhonda Magee, we have been living in an uneasy truce between races since the civil rights movement, and Magee brilliantly facilitates strengthening our will and courage to turn toward each other despite our fears. In essence, she puts shoes on our bruised feet, grabs us by the hand, and walks us further down the path started over fifty years ago."—Zenju Earthlyn Manuel, author of The Way of Tenderness: Awakening Through Race, Sexuality, and Gender  "An invitation to tend to our individual and collective racial healing, this book contains a powerful message of hope in light of the complex problems before us. In it, we find that through radical mindfulness it may be possible to develop the racial literacy needed to create and sustain the kind of society our founding fathers envisioned."—Angel Acosta, former board member of the Center for Contemplative Mind in Society Rhonda V. Magee is a professor of law at the University of San Francisco. Also trained in sociology and mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR), she is a highly practiced facilitator of trauma-sensitive, restorative MBSR interventions for lawyers and law students, and for minimizing the effects of social-identity-based bias. Magee has been a visiting scholar at the Center for the Study of Law and Society and a visiting professor of law at the University of California, Berkeley.

“Illuminates the very heart of social justice and how it might be approached and nurtured through mindfulness practices in community and through the discernment and new degrees of freedom these practices entrain.” --from the foreword by Jon Kabat-Zinn

In a society where unconscious bias, microaggressions, institutionalized racism, and systemic injustices are so deeply ingrained, healing is an ongoing process. When conflict and division are everyday realities, our instincts tell us to close ranks, to find the safety of our own tribe, and to blame others. This book profoundly shows that in order to have the difficult conversations required for working toward racial justice, inner work is essential. Through the practice of embodied mindfulness--paying attention to our thoughts, feelings, and physical sensations in an open, nonjudgmental way--we increase our emotional resilience, recognize our own biases, and become less reactive when triggered.

As Sharon Salzberg, New York Times-bestselling author of Real Happiness writes, “Rhonda Magee is a significant new voice I've wanted to hear for a long time—a voice both unabashedly powerful and deeply loving in looking at race and racism.” Magee shows that embodied mindfulness calms our fears and helps us to exercise self-compassion. These practices help us to slow down and reflect on microaggressions--to hold them with some objectivity and distance--rather than bury unpleasant experiences so they have a cumulative effect over time. Magee helps us develop the capacity to address the fears and anxieties that would otherwise lead us to re-create patterns of separation and division.

It is only by healing from injustices and dissolving our personal barriers to connection that we develop the ability to view others with compassion and to live in community with people of vastly different backgrounds and viewpoints. Incorporating mindfulness exercises, research, and Magee's hard-won insights, The Inner Work of Racial Justice offers a road map to a more peaceful world.

New age approach The book offers good insights but is muddled with new age frames that mar its effectiveness. Would have appreciated multiple lenses to interpret racial conflict and healing.

Calm the F*ck Down is my first adult coloring book in the series, and it was so much fun to create. I found that there were so many great coloring books available, but none that filled a need I was looking for: a book that was fun to color and that also had irreverent adult humor. Sasha is my pen name. Sasha O'Hara is that part of me - of all of us - who is fully self-expressed and says whatever the f*ck is on her mind. All of my books contain both original designs, as well as high quality, hand-curated licensed images from artists around the world. More info and downloadable ebooks are available at www.sashaohara.com

Favorite coloring book to date! This book will do exactly as it says. It will help you calm the f down. The book is awesome. It has one image per page, not front and back, so no worries about markers bleeding thru and ruining another image. I love that there are a couple of pages at the front to test your colors on. The book has awesome images and sayings. The images vary significantly so there really is something for everyone. I've included some sample images from the book to get an idea of what is inside. Amazing book for anyone who loves to color at a super reasonable price. Great gift idea. I'm buying a couple more for friends now that I've seen the inside. Only thing that could make it better is if it were spiral bound, but that's just my preference.Love this entire book Love this entire book. Pictures are a fun challenge to color & the quotes are very funny & true!! Hoping that there will be another book soon!!Hilarious Adult Coloring Book for Those Who are Sarcastic! A couple months ago, I joined the adult coloring book craze and have purchased a number of different coloring books. I mostly choose coloring books with animal designs, mandalas, and various patterns but I needed something to satisfy my sarcastic side. Once I found this book, I immediately ordered it because many reviewers claimed it was stress-relieving AND hilarious, which was exactly what I needed! When I started coloring in this book, I couldn't believe how funny and sarcastic it is! Seriously, you can't own this book and not laugh while coloring in it. The saying goes, "Laughter is the best medicine" and this book is a very inexpensive and enjoyable way to relax. The book measures 8 1/2 inches by 11 inches so the pages are regular printer paper size. There are two color test pages at the front of the book so you can test out your colored pencils or gel pens before you start coloring. There are 21 designs in all, each on their own separate page so you could tear them out to hang up, share with a friend, etc. Some are printed portrait whereas others are printed landscape. Some designs have swear words in them while others have lots of sarcasm and funny pictures to accompany them! There are a couple designs that are somewhat intricate but most of them should be fairly easy to color with colored pencils and gel pens. The paper used is somewhat thinner than other books I have but I just put some paper underneath the page so the gel pens don't bleed through. This is a great book for anyone who has a sarcastic side and loves to color! It is not meant to be used for children and I definitely wouldn't recommend it to anyone who is offended by profanity or very serious. I'm enjoying this book so much that I hope Sasha O'Hara comes out with others like this! I highly recommend it!

ISBN: 1982129913
Title: On Fire Pdf The (Burning) Case for a Green New Deal
Author: Naomi Klein
Published Date: 2019-09-17
Page: 320

“Naomi Klein is the intellectual godmother of the Green New Deal —which just happens to be the most important idea in the world right now”—Bill McKibben“Naomi Klein’s work has always moved and guided me. She is the great chronicler of our age of climate emergency, an inspirer of generations.”—Greta Thunberg, climate activist“A critically important thought-leader in these perilous times, a necessary voice as a courageous movement of movements rises from the ashes.”—Michelle Alexander, author of The New Jim Crow “Naomi is like a great doctor—she can diagnose problems nobody else sees.”—Alfonso CuarĂ³n, Academy Award-winning director of Roma“Naomi Klein applies her fine, fierce and meticulous mind to the greatest, most urgent questions of our times. . . . I count her among the most inspirational political thinkers in the world today.”—Arundhati Roy, Man Booker Prize-winng author of The God of Small Things“Naomi Klein is a precious gift: every time I read her words, my heart leaps from sadness and anger to action. She takes us deep, down to the roots of what is wrong—and then up, up to a height from which we can see what must be done. Everything we love is at stake now: these writings are our best and brightest hope.”—Emma Thompson“The greatest theorist of climate change.”—Amitav Ghosh, author of The Hungry Tide"Masterful. . .What separates Klein from many other advocates for a Green New Deal is her balanced combination of idealism and politics-based realism. . .Another important addition to the literature on the most essential issue of our day.”—Kirkus ReviewsKlein’s passion for action reflects the political, social, and scientific gridlock that makes such sweeping, transformational legislation imperative. Her zeal and eloquence will inspire, engage, and motivate those who are concerned about the planet’s future to become even more involved in taking any and all possible steps to curb or reverse further disruption and destruction.”—Booklist “For a quarter century, now, Naomi Klein has been an outspoken and fearless voice on that which late-stage hyper-capitalism has wrought upon the world: income inequality, overreaching corporate power, for-profit empire building and, of course, the consequent climate crisis. Honestly, we don’t deserve her, and looking back at her seven books one can’t help but think of Cassandra, her warnings ever accurate yet unheeded… with her eighth book, On Fire, Klein collects her longform writing on the climate crisis—from the dying Great Barrier Reef to hurricane-ravaged Puerto Rico—and somehow manages to strike a hopeful note as she calls for a radical commitment to the Green New Deal, the kind of collective mobilization that saved us from the brink in WWII, and might be our only hope now.”—Lit Hub Naomi Klein is an award-winning journalist, columnist, and author of the New York Times and international bestsellers The Shock Doctrine, No Logo, This Changes Everything, and No Is Not Enough. A Senior Correspondent for The Intercept, reporter for Rolling Stone, and contributor for both The Nation and The Guardian, Klein is the inaugural Gloria Steinem Endowed Chair in Media, Culture, and Feminist Studies at Rutgers University. She is co-founder of the climate justice organization The Leap.

#1 international and New York Times bestselling author Naomi Klein, author of The Shock Doctrine and This Changes Everything, makes the case for a Green New Deal—explaining how bold climate action can be a blueprint for a just and thriving society.

For more than twenty years, Naomi Klein has been the foremost chronicler of the economic war waged on both people and planet—and an unapologetic champion of a sweeping environmental agenda with justice at its center. In lucid, elegant dispatches from the frontlines of contemporary natural disaster, she pens surging, indispensable essays for a wide public: prescient advisories and dire warnings of what future awaits us if we refuse to act, as well as hopeful glimpses of a far better future. On Fire: The (Burning) Case for a Green New Deal gathers for the first time more than a decade of her impassioned writing, and pairs it with new material on the staggeringly high stakes of our immediate political and economic choices.

These long-form essays show Klein at her most prophetic and philosophical, investigating the climate crisis not only as a profound political challenge but as a spiritual and imaginative one, as well. Delving into topics ranging from the clash between ecological time and our culture of “perpetual now,” to the soaring history of humans changing and evolving rapidly in the face of grave threats, to rising white supremacy and fortressed borders as a form of “climate barbarism,” this is a rousing call to action for a planet on the brink.

With reports spanning from the ghostly Great Barrier Reef, to the annual smoke-choked skies of the Pacific Northwest, to post-hurricane Puerto Rico, to a Vatican attempting an unprecedented “ecological conversion,” Klein makes the case that we will rise to the existential challenge of climate change only if we are willing to transform the systems that produced this crisis.

An expansive, far-ranging exploration that sees the battle for a greener world as indistinguishable from the fight for our lives, On Fire captures the burning urgency of the climate crisis, as well as the fiery energy of a rising political movement demanding a catalytic Green New Deal.
